The Bronx Masquerade character that I relate to the most

The name of the book we are reading in class is "Bronx Masquerade". The book is about a group of high school students who write poetry and tell each other poems on open mic night. The number of we have meet is 13. The things I like about this book is how everyone decibels the way they are in they're poetry. Everyone show them self through they're poetry. The one thing I dislike about this book is how many bad tryings happen to the people in the story. The characters I relate to the most are Lupe and Dondra.

The one I have in common with both Lupe and Dondra is the problems they have with they father. I have never liked my father my whole life and he doesn't think its right for me to dislike him. Lupe and Dondra are not my favorite characters in the story but they are the ones I can relate to the most. Every time me and my father see each other I just walk away because I didn't want to see him. He has before called me names for not talking to him. The type of conflict does is person V person.

The character I can relate to the least would have to be Gloria Martinez because I'm not going through her problems she has son and goes to school at the same time. Gloria doesn't ever have time for anything, the only person that helps her is her mom. In the book the character I dislike the most would have to be Janelle Battle because she is not conformed with what she has. The type of character I would make for does story is someone who just loves life even after having to go through many problmes. He would be smart, caring, helpful, fun ,brvae and never the least the type of person when you need help he will always be there.

Poetry Poem - JhoannaLora

Poetry Poem

He is like a dry flower
He is never happy
He is never with a smile
He is dry as a rock
When you talk to him he never talks back
His family calls him the black sheep
White like the midnight sky and dark as a flying bird in the night sky
He wants to leave but his mother finds him as her shining heart
To her he is the biting heart that gives her blood

My mom

My mom is my crying heart
She is there when ever I need her
She always has a smile and never says no to walking a mile
In the bad moments she while give you hug
Her hugs are like a warm teddy bear
when she smiles my heart is filed with the sky
Her eyes are like the shining blue sky
I love her so much

Similes and Metaphors

My bull is the silver fish in the river,

My bull is the shimmering crane bird on the riverbank,

My bull is fresh milk!

His roar is thunder to the Turkish cannon on the steep shore.

My bull is a dark rain cloud in a storm.

My bull is summer and winter.

Half of him is the dark storm cloud

Half of him is the dark sunshine.

My bull backs is a shining morning star.

His brow is the back of a horn bill red.

His forehead is a flag, calling the people from a distance.

He resembles the rainbow.

I will water him at the river,

With my spear I shall drive my enemies.

Let them water their herds at the well;

The river belongs to me and my bull.

Drink, my bull, form the river; I am here to guard you with my spear.

Poetry-JhoannaLora

Poetry

Poetry is many things to people for some romantic, adventurer, and humor. To me poetry is anything in a poem you can write about anything your life, love, etc.People use poetry to show or write what they are feeling or thinking. You can show what ever in a poem. In my opinion I think people shouldn't write poems about hating and how much you wish bad things should happen to people or someone.Poetry is a way to experience yourself writing. The differnt things that are in a poem are a subject, tone,
theme, diction, imagery, figures of speech, rhythm, and sound.

Racism Poem-JhoannaLora

Racism is like trying to jump from the sky
You never know where you are going
Racism is like trying to find the sky
while saying bye
Whites were mean and never shamed to care
they just wanted to scare
Everyone is one color because we all are one big blender
Black, whites and in all in between
All mixing together like one big piece of pie
We should just come together and say hi

By Jhoanna Lora

Today in literacy class we learned about similes and metaphors. We write poems about racism. My poem is about how all of us come together and mix in as one. Black and whites and all in between we should just be as one. Racism is really bad and to this day we are no as one.

Black HIstory Month- Jim Crow Laws

My name is Jimmy Walker. I live in Austin,Texas with my two sisters and four brothers. My father works as a farm and my mother stays home. I go to school with my two brothers in a school for all black kids. The school is very different combared to white kids school. Our bathrooms are all messed up and the lunch is used sometime to teach, eat, and fight when every a white kid comes in the school. Once when I was going home a group of white kids try'd to tie me to tree. I was saved by my two older brothers.

Every time my family goes out to eat we all have to sit and eat in colored places. I just want everything to change so that we all can live together. Jim Crow laws made it seem like everyone of color was non human. On the bus I always have to sit in the back to let a white person sit in my seat. I always like telling them we all the same but if do I go to jail. I have never been allowed to do the same things as white people like go to the park, public restroom, libarys, and play with the our kids because of my color.

If someone who has to follow the Jim Crow Laws does not follow them that person will get in really big trouble and go to jail. I hope one day to see Austin,Texas with out Jim Crow laws.

Langston Hughes and Jim Crow Laws

Langston Hughes and Jim Crow Laws

Today in literacy class we learned about Jim Crow Laws. Jim Crow laws were laws that didn't allow African America to share with white people. Black couldn't use the same bathrooms as white people. Black people were biting. Lets say if they find a white women in pain the first person who they thought did it were black people. Jim crow laws made it shame like white people were humans and black people were animals.

Jim Crow laws were all about segregating. The main places segregating happened was in the south. In the north everything was so much different people didn't care if you were black, white or any color. As for in the south everything was different if you were color you were treated unfairly everywhere.

I think Jim crow were unfair laws been a person of color and not.Black people were treated like if they were not humans and just dogs. I Martin Luther King Jr. never stooped Jim Crow laws everything would be different.

Langston Hughes was an African American poet. He was famous for writhing poems about life, black people and black culture. Langston was born February 1, 1902 – May 22, 1967. Hughes is known for his work during the Harlem Renaissance.Hughes wanted young black writers to be objective about their race, but not scorn or to flee it. He understood the main points of the Black Power movement of the 1960s.

Simpling Method

Simpling Method

I would like to survey the number of people who have visited a supermarket in the last two days. I will sample 100 people who have visited a supermarket.

Random Sample: I would randomly put everyones name in a box and pick. So that everyone has an equal chance of being chosen.

Convenience Sample: I would sample the first 50 people that walk near the fruit corner.

Biased Sample: I would sample all the people coming out of a Chinese supermarket.

How do we use spreadsheets to create graphs?

February 2,2009
Jhoanna Lora

Today in math class we learned to use spreadsheets to display data. On our lab tops we created line graphs, bar graphs, circle graph. We created the graphs and write a respond to some questions. First, we used Microsoft Excel to create the graphs, and inserted a chart. Then, we write out the information and created the graph with the information. Finally, I write with graph would appropriate.

I had to figure out between a bar graph and a circle graph. The bar graph displays the student council budget better. The reason is because the bar graph shows the amount and compares how much the student council budget was spent on each. The reason the circle graph does not display the data better is because a circle graph shows a set by dividing it and the graph didn't give amounts.
The appropriate graph between a line graph , and a bar graph. The appropriate graph that displayed the data of the student council budget better is a bar graph because a line graph shows the frequency of values over time. The bar graph displays and compares the data.
